Hi Chris.

No need to register your children. Children under age 18 fish in the Junior division. After that, they fish as an adult until age 21.

@bobwaters thanks! I am planning to take the kids out for Calico bass on Saturday. How does the catch and release point system work? I am near Newport Harbor do I need to live well and weigh them at BAC and then back to the spot to release? Would a picture suffice for 2 pts if I release on the spot and negate the weighed value add on?

Hi Chris.

Keep any legal Calicos you catch in your live well. To identify each fish by angler, I snip a small piece of a different fin. Example, I snip lower tail. Another angler can snip left side shoulder fin. Any place you can remember which fish belongs to which angler.

We use a light weight bag, tare the scale to the bag weight, weigh fish and release at weigh station. Balboa has a nice dock with deep water.

Calico bass earn 2 bonus points for live release. No bonus for a dead Calico bass. Record actual weight on the electronic weigh slip. I will add the bonus points when I calculate each Angler point total. Make sure to choose Calico Bass in the drop down Fish Species box. We need to differentiate between bass species.

Chris.

You can use the BAC scale is that is convenient or weigh at Dana Fuel dock. You can use a hand scale, but it has to have a valid certificate. Certificates are valid for one year. If using a hand scale, you must be on dry land, take a picture of fish on scale showing weight
